Few more updates today. Obviously I don't have lots of spare cash at the moment so i've been doing all the small jobs i've been meaning to do for a while. Mainly removing the rest of the unwanted/un-sightly studs and brackets in the engine bay. Especially the bonnet prop one - god knows why they fit these on a 106 as you have gas struts so it's not needed....still!

I also bolted my battery bracket in properly as I took it out to get it powder coated black, but it was so fiddly to bolt in again i've only just gotten aroun to doing it! Pleased with the results though so far - just needs a lick of paint on the strut top and the bay is almost done. I still have a few hose retainers to swap over, and I would like a black oil cooler instead but that's on the long finger now I have no dosh! Sad

Here are some pics anyway:

Area masked off for stud grinding with the dremmel (SUCH a great tool):

Gone:

The 'obnoxious' bonnet prop bracket (looks so messy) - it was an arse to remove to in such a confined space:

Getting there:

Gone:

Then I noticed another one at the back annoying me!

I don't have a pic of it removed but it's gone now! I also touched up the areas I ground down too of course. I'll get some pics today.

Here's the battery holder - looks much nicer in black!

That's it for now.

Lewis

Few more updates - touched up those areas where I ground off the studs, and fitted my new black gear knob. It does look a lot better in the blue cabin I will say. My white one will be for sale too now if anyone's interested Smile

Touched up areas:

New Gearknob:

She's getting there now! Very Happy

Thanks guys - I took off the quickshift tonight to spray black. I am halfway through it so will stick up som epics once done. Acid Etch primed it twice tonight, then i'll give it 2 coats of smooth satin tomorrow night. Pics to follow Smile

Few more updates tonight. I actually did a lot of small jobs tonight but alas I forgot my camera again, and my phone was low on battery and it would only take a few snaps!

Basically I fitted all my new silver hose clamps from Earls, fitted a new piece of carbon over the rear seat belt bracket area as Bob removing every single piece of wiring so had to get a new peice of carbon without a hole in for wiring! I also fitted the new black quickshift. Looks pretty nice I think. I will put some pics of it fitted up in a few days. I also had some carbon off Streamline (Bic) for the speaker holes so I will fit that over the weekend. Really pleased with how she's shaping up now!

Here are the pics of the quickshift anyway (again turd phone pics). The finish is pretty damn smooth, although the paint isn't hugely robust despite the fact it's meant to be chip proof etc...never mind. If it starts to flake i'll polish it again!

More pics soon!

Lewis

Few more updates today - I managed to get some pics of all the bits i've been doing. Also feeling a bit pissed off as I seem to be finding leaks everywhere...bloody passenger driveshaft seal is leaking oil, I appear to have a leak on the caliper - or at least I noticed a drip of brake fluid on the bottom of one so wiped it clean to see if it appears again. I also saw another big drop of oil on the bottom of the gearbox, so I hope to god that's not leaking or it'll be back to pug1off for them to fix properly! As well as this, my sump is still leaking so the twats that welded it in the first place obviously didn't do it properly. And finally some of the brake lines inside the car appear to be leaking, or 'sweating' from the joins where the fittings go into the T piece on the back bench. These were meant to be fitted by an 'expert' so i'm not happy about that! If you want anything done properly you have to do it yourself. So as well as the exhaust, I have this long list of shit to sort out....so I am feeling pissed off but never mind...

Anyway, rant over, here are the constructive pics of today. I had to remove the inner arches too as they were catching the tyres on full lock now it is lower. It's only by doing this that I noticed all these damn leaks! Sad

Also got some more carbon bits, and another piece for where Bob removed the wiring from the rear.

Pics:

Before:

After:

No Wiring in the rear now:

Swapped the hose clamps with silver throughout:

Black Quickshift:

Carbon Speaker Hole Covers:

New Faulkner Springs and arch liners removed:

Big (Leaky ass) Brakes:

Interior:

That's all for now. I am feeling a bit gutted i've had so many bloody problems, it's like i'm jinxed. I'm going to go through the whole car myself I think and sort all the shit out. Obviously Bob's work is all mint, this is all stuff that's out of our control....still, they send these things to test us right?

Few more updates today. Did a couple of small jobs and fitted my pug sport stud conversion on the rear, along with some 5mm Eibach spacers so it's matching the front in terms of track etc. I also ground off another little lip in the bay on the scuttle and painted it up. Did want to make a start re-doing the brake lines but I didn't get around to that. It's only leaking one side inside the cabin but probably just gonna redo the whole lot (internally) with Earls fittings just to be sure!

Here are the pics anyway.

Stud conversion:

'Tyre poke':

Some general engine and car snaps:

Removal of lip on scuttle - I still have to do the other one too. If I decide to use a wiper motor cover I have a cunning plan to avoid the requirement of this unsightly lip!

GONE and painted:

I also removed the pikey sticker off the wiper motor but didn't get any pics of that. The bay is starting to look really tidy now. She's getting there at last!

Thanks

Lewis

Seems ok but the battery is currently dead so it'll need a charge! Cold weather kills these batteries!

Few more updates. I've almost finished re-doing the leaky brake lines inside the cabin, replacing it all with the Earls stuff. Looks much tidier too, dead pleased with it. I'll get some pics up the weekend.

Also should be picking up my new flocked dash from Bic too tomorrow, so hopefully i'll get that fitted over the weekend. That'll be the inside pretty much finished then - woo! Very Happy

a word of warning --with those spacers fitted you have no location for wheel centre on hub --so the wheel is hanging on the studs--not a good idea--you should always have wheel located on centre + nuts just hold them on and not up as well

You could have atleast cleaned it for the photos Wink

Do you not think it looks a bit crappy with the wiper motor and wires all on display. There is a trim covering it normally, and those tabs you cut off.. hold the trim on. Shocked

I did a bit of stud removal from daves engine bay the other night lewis. He is secretly anal. Had me touching up the bare metal aswell Laughing Wink

Hey Mr topsy turvy you got it all wrong!

You were itching to remove a stud from my engine bay and then gave it a double coat of paint as well as painting some other bits!

Bare matal turns to rust which is lighter, that suits me fine.

Your the anal one Steve you dirty dog... well so Franky says. Wink

John, I hear where you're coming from, but these spacers are only 5mm so the wheel still sits on the edge of the hub no problem, even without the nuts tightened on, so it'll be fine.

Steve, I have sorted the wiper motor area a bit since these pics, as yea it looked a bit untidy. I wanted a new cover but it's like £90 so i've just minted the area doing something else. Pics will be up later on. I have a way to keep the cover in place anyway without use for those tabs - read above! Wink
